REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE is a type of denture ideal for patients who have multiple tooth loss. A removable partial denture (RPD) is made of both metal and acrylic. A RPD base/framework as well as all its retentive components is made out of a metal. The acrylic component of a RPD is designed to replace missing gum and teeth.
Overall design of an RPD must be in harmony with the remaining teeth of the patient and distribute functional load to the rest of the remaining dentition. RPDs must be retentive, stable and sturdy. One advantage of an RPD is that it is removable as its name suggests and therefore easily cleansable. RPDs can be designed to be esthetic and replicate function of natural teeth.
